14th seed, Sofia Kenin stunned the Melbourne crowd by defeating home star Ashleigh Barty to reach her first Grand Slam title.
Kenin will take on unseeded Garbine Muguruza who defeated world number 3 Simona Halep in straight sets.
Kenin’s route through to the final has been quite sailing, only dropping one set, which was in the quarter-final to Cori Gauff.
Muguruza has dropped two sets on her route to the final, of which both were dropped in her first and second-round ties.
Sofia Kenin, who has won 5 career titles to date (all in 2019 – 3 singles & 2 doubles), will be the favourite for the Australian Open title. They have only met previously on one occasion in Beijing 2019, where Kenin beat Muguruza 6-0 2-6 6-2.
Muguruza has 2 majors to her name already – 2016 French Open & 2017 Wimbledon.
Will Muguruza be able to add the Australian Open to her collection of major titles or will Kenin win her first major and defeat Muguruza for the second time in her career?
